Microsoft FTEs supervising direct contractors should be aware of the following procedures:
- An authority to work (ATW) is required to ensure the safety of Microsoft staff, vendors, contractors and visitors who potentially could be exposed to OHS hazards. The ATW system is a formalized process to control work and access to identified areas, designed to prevent incidents in the workplace.
- Requests must be sent to Global OHS with the Method Statement and Risk Assessment for the works that will be reviewed and uploaded by the OHS team. This process authorizes work only after safe procedures have been defined and all foreseeable hazards have been considered.
- This applies to all persons performing activities on behalf of Microsoft or any supplier company, including contractors and any third parties on Microsoft premises. The Facilities Management (FM) provider will follow an independent process for its external staff and manage the isolation of hazardous energy, dust, and hot works.

The Microsoft OHS Management System program states how we ensure safety and health at all our facilities in compliance with global and local laws and standards.
The Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work Act 2005 also requires employers to identify hazards and perform risk assessments. We conform to these guidelines by performing site risk assessments, which detail the main hazards associated with a workplace, consequences presented from the hazards that exist, and risk reduction measures implemented to reduce the likelihood of risk.
Planning external events
When arranging an external event supported by Microsoft, employees must ensure that the event is risk-assessed and has the appropriate insurance clearance.
